De faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen (FSW) is voor het studiejaar 2024-2025 op zoek naar een gepassioneerde student (m/v/x) die zitting wil nemen in het faculteitsbestuur als studentassessor.

Vind je het leuk om je bezig te houden met het verbeteren van jouw onderwijs en wil jij de belangen van 6.600 studenten vertegenwoordigen? Spreekt het je aan om met de sleutelfiguren van de faculteit te vergaderen en op facultair niveau de studentbelangen te verdedigen? Dan is deze functie iets voor jou!

Wat ga je doen?

Als studentassessor ben je adviserend lid van het faculteitsbestuur en belangenbehartiger van alle studenten van onze faculteit in onderwijs- en beleidszaken. Je vormt een belangrijke schakel tussen studenten, studieverenigingen, medezeggenschap en het bestuur. Je ondersteunt de decaan en onderhoudt nauw contact met de studenten en de medezeggenschap.

Daarnaast werk je samen met een diverse groep van docenten, hoogleraren, onderwijsbeleidsmedewerkers en ander ondersteunend personeel in projecten, overleggen en medezeggenschapsorganen. Je hebt niet alleen inspraak op facultair beleid, maar je kan ook eigen projecten uitvoeren en zo veranderingen in de faculteit teweegbrengen.

· Je behartigt in het bestuur in het bijzonder student- en onderwijszaken. Je bent daarvoor in algemene zin op de hoogte van wat leeft onder de studenten van Sociale Wetenschappen;

· Je neemt deel aan vergaderingen van het faculteitsbestuur en andere relevante overlegstructuren;

· Samen met de medezeggenschapscoördinatoren (MeCo’s) en de voorzitter van de studentengeleding van de faculteitsraad ben je verantwoordelijk voor de organisatie en instandhouding van het facultaire overleg waarbij je overlegt met studenten die actief en betrokken zijn bij de medezeggenschap;

· Je onderhoudt contacten met de studentleden van de opleidingscommissies (OC-kamers) van de Undergraduate School (UGS) en Graduate School (GS), de studentengeleding van de faculteitsraad en (vertegenwoordigers van) studentleden van opleidings(advies)commissies;

· Je bent facultair contactpersoon voor de studieverenigingen bij de Faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen;

· Je bent actief betrokken bij uiteenlopende activiteiten en projecten:

• je neemt deel aan facultaire commissies, zoals EDI en sociale veiligheid;

• je zorgt voor de verbinding tussen studenten en Onderzoek & Impact ( betrokken bij Discovery Nights);

• je stelt persoonlijke speerpunten op (in afstemming met het faculteitsbestuur);

• je ondersteunt bij carrière evenementen zoals CareerNight;

· je onderhoudt contact met andere facultaire assessoren en draagt waar mogelijk bij aan universitaire projecten en commissies.

Wat vragen wij?

· Je staat ingeschreven als student bij een opleiding van de Faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen en weet wat er onder studenten leeft en kan daarover het faculteitsbestuur adviseren;

· Je bent kritisch en gedreven om je in te zetten voor de faculteit op het gebied van onderwijs, onderzoek en bedrijfsvoering vanuit het perspectief van de student;

· Je bezit gevoel voor bestuurlijke verhoudingen en je hebt zicht op de context waar de faculteiten en universiteit zich in bewegen;

· Je kunt je complexe zaken eigen maken en bent nieuwsgierig naar nieuwe ontwikkelingen;

· Uiteraard beschik je over goede communicatieve vaardigheden (NL en ENG) en ben je in staat om een netwerk van diverse contacten te onderhouden;

· Je komt in aanraking met vertrouwelijke informatie, daarom vragen wij dat je integer kan omgaan met vertrouwelijke informatie;

· Zowel samenwerken als het zelfstandig kunnen werken gaan jou goed af;

· Je bent assertief en kan werken onder druk;

· beheerst de Nederlandse en Engelse taal.

Tijdsinvestering en vergoeding

De tijdsinvestering bedraagt 20-24 uur per week. Studentassessoren aan de UU worden aangesteld als student-assistent en krijgen hiermee het salaris dat een student-assistent ook krijgt (zie CAO UNL). Hiervoor moeten studentassessoren ingeschreven staan als student aan de UU en collegegeld betalen. Echter, de studentassessoren worden geen student-assistenten genoemd, dit gaat enkel over de manier van vergoeden. De aanstelling loopt van 1 september tot 1 september.

Inwerkprogramma en voorzieningen

De inwerkperiode en overdracht zijn vanaf juni en deels in de zomerperiode, hierin word je begeleid door de huidige assessor. De uren zijn flexibel en niet aan vaste dagen gebonden, met uitzondering van vaste vergaderingen.

Je kunt gebruik maken van een werkkamer, kamer F3.02, samen met de medezeggenschapscoördinatoren (MeCo’s) en andere leden van de medezeggenschap, en eventuele beschikbare werkplekken/flexplekken bij het faculteitsbureau. Daarbij word je voorzien van een eigen laptop en campuskaart (pas voor printen en toegang tot (vergader)kamers). Het gehele faculteitsbestuur inclusief bestuurssecretarissen zijn een (inhoudelijk) aanspreekpunt voor de assessor. De begeleiding (procesmatig en inhoudelijk) en ondersteuning zal voornamelijk komen vanuit de bestuurssecretarissen en de decaan in het bijzonder.

Over het faculteitsbestuur FSW

De decaan vormt samen met de drie vicedecanen, de faculteitsdirecteur en een studentassessor het Faculteitsbestuur. De vicedecanen zijn tevens directeur van respectievelijk de Undergraduate School (alle bacheloropleidingen) en PhD opleiding, de Graduate School (alle masters), en het Research Institute (Onderzoek en Impact). De faculteitsdirecteur is verantwoordelijk voor de bedrijfsvoering; het student-lid (assessor) vertegenwoordigt de medestudenten. De decaan is eindverantwoordelijk.

In het bestuur worden essentiële beslissingen genomen die het beleid van de faculteit bepalen en op basis van de ontwikkelingen bij de opleidingen en het onderzoek worden facultaire kansen en strategie bepaald. Zo wordt er nagedacht en besloten over onderwijs- en onderzoeksbeleid, financiën, communicatie, bedrijfsvoering en de profilering van opleidingen en onderzoek. Komend studiejaar zullen vooral elementen uit het huidige Strategisch plan centraal staan, zoals bijvoorbeeld Erkennen en Waarderen, Diversiteit & Inclusie, Open Science en de koppeling van (multidisciplinair) onderwijs aan de Strategische Thema’s (https://www.uu.nl/organisatie/strategisch-plan-2025).

Vacancy for a student assessor (M/F/X)

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FSBS) seeks a passionate student (M/F/X) who wishes to serve on the Faculty Board in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Would you like to try and improve your degree programme and promote the interests of 5,900 of your fellow students? Do you like the idea of attending meetings with the Faculty’s key figures and defending your fellow students’ interests at the faculty level? If you do, please consider applying for this position!

What will you be doing?

As the student assessor, you will serve on the Faculty Board in an advisory capacity and promote the education and policy-related interests of all students attending our Faculty. You will form an important link between students, study associations, representative advisory councils and the Faculty Board. You will assist the dean and keep in close contact with students and representative advisory councils.

In addition, you will collaborate with a diverse group of lecturers, professors, education policy staff and other support staff in projects, meetings and representative advisory councils. Not only will you have a say in the Faculty’s policy-making, you will also be able to carry out your own projects and thus bring about changes in the Faculty.

· In particular, you will promote students’ interests and education interests. To this end, you must have a good sense of the things that matter to the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences’ students.

· You will attend meetings of the Faculty Board, as well as other relevant types of meetings;

· You will be responsible (jointly with the participation coordinators and the chairperson of the student representatives on the Faculty Council) for the continued organisation of meetings, during which you will consult with students serving on and active in the representative advisory council.

· You will maintain contacts with the student members of the programme advisory committees of both the Undergraduate School and the Graduate School, the student representatives on the Faculty Council and the student members of programme (advisory) committees (or their representatives).

· You will serve as the Faculty’s contact person to the study associations of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

· You will be actively involved in various activities and projects, including:

• You participate in faculty committees, such as Equality, Diveristy and Inclusion (EDI) and social safety;

• You ensure the connection between students and Research & Impact (you are involved with the Discovery Nights);

• You will assist with career events, such as CareerNight;

• Personal key objectives (in consultation with the Faculty Board).

· You keep in touch with other faculty student assessors and contribute to university projects and committees.

What do we ask from you?

· You must be enrolled as a student in a degree programme taught by the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, know what issues matter to your fellow students and be able to issue the Faculty Board with advice on these.

· You must have a critical attitude and be highly motivated to help improve the Faculty in terms of teaching, research and operational management, offering a student’s point of view.

· You have a good head for administrative relations and an insight into the context in which the faculties and the University operate.

· You can master complicated issues and are interested in new developments;

· Obviously, you must have good communication skills (in both Dutch and English) and be able to maintain a network of contacts.

· Since you will be exposed to confidential information, we need to know that you are able to handle confidential information with integrity.

· You must be a good team worker, but also be good at working independently.

· You must be assertive and able to work under pressure;

· has command/mastery of the Dutch and English languages.

Time required and financial allowance

The completion of your duties will require 20 to 24 hours per week. Student assessors at UU are appointed as student assistants and thus receive the salary that a student assistant also receives (CAO UNL). To do so, student assessors must be registered as students at UU and pay tuition fees. However, student assessors are not called student assistants, this is only about the way they are remunerated. The appointment runs from 1 September to 1 September.

Induction programme and special provisions

The induction and handover period will start in June and will partly cover the summer holiday period, during which you will be trained on the job by the current student assessor. Work hours are flexible and not tied to fixed days of the week, except for fixed meetings.

You will be allowed to use an office space (room F3.02, which you will share with the participation coordinators (MeCo’s) and student members of the participation), as well as any workstations/flexible workspaces available at the Faculty Office. You will be provided with your own laptop and a salto tag (which you can use to print documents and access meeting rooms). All the members of the Faculty Board, including the executive secretaries to the Board, will serve as a point of contact for you if you have any questions related to the position. You will mainly be guided in matters of procedure and the subject matter under discussion by the support units/service departments, and particularly by the executive secretaries to the Board and the dean.

About the FSBS Faculty Board

The Faculty Board is made up of the dean, three vice deans, the director and the student assessor. The vice deans also serve as directors of the Undergraduate School (all Bachelor’s programmes) and the PhD programmes, the Graduate School (all Master’s programmes), and the Research Institute ( Research and Impact). The director is responsible for the operational management; the student member (assessor) represents their fellow students. The dean has final responsibility.

The board makes essential policy-related decisions and also decides on the Faculty’s opportunities and strategy, based on trends observed in the degree programmes and in research projects. The board members reflect and decide on the Faculty’s education and research policy, financial matters, communication, operational management and the market positioning of degree programmes and research projects. In the coming academic year, the focus will mainly be on aspects specified in the current Strategic Plan, such as Recognition and Rewards, Diversity & Inclusion, Open Science and how multi-disciplinary and other education fits in with the Strategic Themes (https://www.uu.nl/organisatie/strategisch-plan-2025).
