Assessor
The student assessor represents the students in the Faculty Board and brings the student perspective to the table. As an assessor, you act as the link between your fellow students, student participation, study associations, and the Faculty Board.
In this role, you work with a diverse group of lecturers, professors, education policy officers, and other staff members on projects and in meetings. As a student assessor, you have the opportunity to initiate your own projects and help bring about changes within the faculty. You will have frequent contact with various groups within the university, giving you a broad understanding of everything that is going on. You actively collaborate with other students in participation bodies such as the Faculty Council and the members of the Programme Committee groups. You are also in contact with assessors from other faculties, allowing you to stay informed about what is happening elsewhere in the university.
As an assessor, you also get the chance to contribute to faculty policy in the area of student and educational affairs; you are encouraged to launch your own initiatives or join in on certain themes. For example, you may work on issues such as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) or social safety among students. In short: as an assessor, you gain a unique ‘behind the scenes’ view of the faculty and the university, and the opportunity to make real contributions to improvements for fellow students.
Current Student Assessor
Hi, and thanks for checking out the assessor’s page!
I’m Maes Offergelt, a fourth-year Psychology student and the assessor of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Last year, through my experience on a board year, I discovered that I find policy a fascinating topic — especially how it affects people and the kind of influence it can have. That’s how I ended up in the role of assessor.
In the coming year, I’ll mainly focus on the visibility of Student Representation, the development of AI in education, and the budget cuts in higher education.
What I enjoy most about my work is that I get to be involved in discussions about everything happening within our faculty. As you might already know, I’m part of the Faculty Board, which means I participate directly in the process of policy-making and decision-making. I always try to represent the student perspective, as well as the voices I hear from the student community. Most of the information I receive comes through the Programme Committees (OCs), but students can also reach out to me directly.
If there’s something you think should be discussed at the faculty level, you can always contact your OC or the Faculty Council — or you can email me directly at assessor.fsw@uu.nl.
